Lenses

I went back to the eye specialists, today. There I took this nifty picture of a box of lenses. I got permission after I made it clear as glass that I wouldn’t break anything.

What impresses me so much about this shot is that there are so many different ways to see the same thing. Each lens represents a different prescription. Each lens represents a different way to see reality. Does reality change? No, only the way it is seen.

Depending on the lenses with which we view life, the image can be either cloudy or distorted. Some say that “truth is in the eye of the beholder.” Others say that “perception is reality.” The truth is that though the lens may change one’s ability to see, the reality of what is being viewed never changes.

Truth is objective, not subjective. Changing one’s viewpoint doesn’t change what is true, it only makes a difference in how clearly the truth is seen.

For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth.” – Psalm 26:3
