Haley and a Blackbird

On a recent drive through Alabama, we stopped by the U.S. Space and Rocket Museum.

This is my little one, Haley, standing in front of an SR-71 Blackbird. She was excited to see this plane in person, considering it was top secret when I was her age (and older).

If you are not familiar with this aircraft, it could do 3 times the speed of sound and operate at 80,000 feet. It is made mostly of titanium, and it’s black paint is made up of tiny iron balls.

This particular SR-71 was the seventh made of its type. It logged (as far as we know) 258 flights.

Haley’s dream is to go into the special forces. Who knows, maybe she’ll be able to fly a secret plane one day.
