The Chattanooga – New York Connection

The Dome Building

Located in the center of Chattanooga, TN, is the the Dome building. What many people don’t know is that the gold-domed landmark used to be the headquarters for the Chattanooga Times newspaper.

Most people don’t know that it used to be called the Ochs Building, named after Adolph Ochs, the owner of the Chattanooga Times. The Chattanooga Times moved into the building in 1892, the year Ochs assumed full ownership of the paper. The paper was purchased by Adoph Ochs in 1880 when he was only 20 years old (he assumed half interest two years earlier with a borrowed $250).

Most people don’t know that Adolph Ochs also purchased The New York Times.

Essentially, The New York Times and the Chattanooga Times newspapers were related.
